With an international following, Lance’s sculptures are displayed in collections throughout the world and his work can be viewed in person by appointment at his studio gallery in Polson, Montana.

 

Lance Marshall Boen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from La Verne University where he focused on painting.  He then went on to achieve a Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University, where he studied sculpture.  During that time his passion for painting, sculpture, and fishing merged organically to inspire his current work.

 

Known for creating one-of-a-kind fish sculptures, Lance hand tools and paints surreal storytelling images on the sculptures’ leather surface.  The textured scenes flow with movement and action as they display imagery about angling or the aquatic lives and habitats of the fish.  Lance’s work is often larger-than-life and ranges from finely detailed tropical fish to epically sized saddle-wearing trout measuring up to 10 feet.

 

Lance’s most recent work focuses on creating an underwater environment art experience.  To create multi-layered environments, Lance incorporates vintage saddle tack, antique baseball gloves, and western rigs.  These visually rich installations invite the viewer into a unique interpretation of the fishes’ environment.  Each time they are explored, hidden within, become discovered.
